Embracing colour

Hi all, I hope your week is going well.
Just a very quick post from me today as I wanted to share some little samples I made after doing an online class with my blog friend Marjie Kemper.
I have had this little booklet with grey board postage stamp pages in my stash for the longest time, and I thought they would be the perfect size to try out some of Marjie's techniques, so here goes, just the first 4:
One of the reasons I wanted to do this class is because I love Marjie's colourful work and I always have such a hard time embracing bright colours, so I had to step well out of my comfort zone, starting each page with Margie's favourite colour in the Distress line, - Mustard Seed.
One of the other things that Marjie is known for is her wonderful work with stencils, so on each of the pages you can see a variety of stencils used, such a great way of adding several layers.
On this one, in addition to stencils and background stamping, I also added some white pen work to add another layer to the focal stamps which in each case were stamped in Black Archival.
Most stamps used were by Tim Holtz, this one is a La Blanche, but I actually don't think it works very well as too much of the background comes through. Ah well, live and learn.

I have had great fun with this class and is really reasonably priced. HERE is a link if you want to find out more.
Have a good week everyone and I hope you will get some inky time!!

This is truly something new from you Astrid, -I could also use such a class, as I`m not good at using colours. You did a wonderful job, they are each little artpieces, with so much to experience. Wonderful tones, and stamps.

Wonderful pieces, Astrid, WOW! I love all of your colors; you made some marvelous combinations that just come to life with the stenciling and stamping! Great format for a book, too - will have to try that as it seems a perfect size for these types of pieces. xxx Lynn

Astrid,
Beautiful pieces and colors! The stencils to seem to add another layer - hadn't thought of it that way. I am unable to step out of comfort zone yet - blues, pinks and browns mostly. Thanks for sharing!

So lovely to see you embracing colour Astrid, you do it so well too. It never ceases to amaze me how layers can be added with stencils and I love the white pen effect too. Now I just need to find time to finish the class off.... Hugs, Anne xx

Hello Astrid,
They all look wonderful, and I concur it is great to see the colour in your work. I love the La BLanche sample, it is bold and you can see every layer that you have created, wonderful to the eye. It is always good to step out of ones comfort zone; the only way to extend oneself. I believe living in a climate that does not see too much sun does not help, these few months you have now will help so I encourage you to keep reaching for the brights and leave the darks for when winter sets in.
Smiles:)

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
