Tim Holtz 12 tag February

Hello everyone and  I hope you have had a good weekend!
Sunday usually means some arty play time for me and I decided to have a go at Tim's February tag.
Here is the original:
To see exactly how Tim made his, just click HERE
Like usual, I had to improvise as I do not have many of the products he used, but I did have some. Here is my version:
I did my background in exactly the same way, but as I don't have the heart stencil (yet) I used the dot one. I wanted a darker, more burgundy red, so I used Festive Berries and Black Soot to stencil through the folder. I then clear embossed, like Tim suggests.

As I don't own the sentiment stamp he used, I used one from the Way with Words set. Luckily I had all the stuff to do the chalk board technique, which he first demonstrated in Creative Chemistry 102.
As you can see, I can do with some practice to perfect this technique...
I decided to mount all my size 8 tags onto size 10 ones and label the months at the top. I did that with my January one too and will make them into a little book when I have done all 12.

Because a size 10 has more space I could play around a bit with the embellishments as you can see.
I mounted the heart, wrapped with some rusty wire, onto a black rosette.

The little cherub was covered in Brushed Pewter Distress Paint.

I dyed some seam binding to match the tag, tied some at the top, and a bit around the cherub's neck, just for fun, I added a little rusty bell and that was pretty much it.

I finished it like Tim with a little metal strip at the bottom, but because I don't have these peel of thingies he used, I cut a strip  with a Spellbinders on the edge die and added a tiny bit of Black Soot DP to make it less shiny..

Well, that was my version and I hope hope you like it.
Can't wait for the March tag now, - what will he be using??? Some of those new Wallflower elements perhaps? Anyway, thank you for visiting and have a good week!!

Hello Astrid,
Well you have given everyone a lesson in improvisation, it will help many to join in this Challenge as I dare say some crafters are intimidated at not having the right tools, not me though, I am an 'armchair' enthusiast when it comes to Tim's Tags, enjoying everyone else's creations.
I love your interpretation, and even though you feel the chalkboard technique is not the best, the overall effect of the Tag is interesting to the eye, with plenty of texture off set with the drama of the palette.
Smiles:)

You sure did an amazing take on Tims tag here Astrid, it looks wonderful, and I don´t think, he expects at all that epeople are doing exactly the same, but are using his as inspiration only to have a good play, as that´s what it´s all about, and you got an awesome result with this, it looks fabulous.

Great take on Feb. I love the addition of the black soot, making this a very grown-up Valentine red! The wire-wrapped heart is also brilliant. Love how you're mounting the tags - what a great book they'll make by the end of the year. Haven't even thought about mine yet!

Wonderful tag Astrid - I wonder who out there has everything in their stash that Mr. Tim uses. I have a pretty good Tim Holtz stash but I never seem to have what he uses on his tag!!!! But that's half the fun - taking his idea and making it our own regardless what we have or don't
have!

Astrid ... wow!! I love this. That wire-entwined heart on the rosette is such a fabulous embellishment. And I really like the layered tags to set off the darker red background. The scarf on cupid is sooooo cute. Perfect for the winter we are having. Congrats on the reaching your 2000th follower so quickly. Not a big surprise. Your work is wonderful. -- Mary Elizabeth

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
