For the Love of Butterflies

Hello everyone, lovely to see you here!
Yesterday I had some unexpected time to play and so I decided to alter a tag, play with some techniques and just have some fun, - here is the result:
I started with the central panel, which was a piece of Manila card stock leftover from another project. I covered it with a thin layer of Paperartsy Grungepaste, spread unevenly with a pallet knife. While still wet I spritzt a Tim Holtz script stamp with water and stamped into it. When it had dried, I then coloured it with Tumbled Glass, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress inks. I gave it a couple of spritzes with some home made Perfect Gold mists, Gold and Green Patina, I also added a little bit of a patina Gelato.
Here is a close up:
I stamped the Tim Holtz Papillon  butterflies twice on smooth card stock with Potting Soil archival. I cut the three largest ones out, coloured them with the same colours, plus some Peacock Feather Distress ink. I glued one on top of the other for a 3D effect and then adhered them to the panel.

The actual tag was a size 10. I added some strips of old book paper and blended over it with Antique Linen Distress paint. I then coloured in a similar way but I also added some Chipped Sapphire and blue chalk ink around the edges to deepen the colour.
The butterfly panel was adhered over a bit of torn corrugated card on one side.
As you can see, I embellished with a rusted pen nib and a stamped Tim Holtz ticket. The pen nib was rusted with a cool medium called Rust Copper from Modelmates. I got a little sample to try out, hopefully Calico Crafts will be stocking this very soon. I also added some Rust Antiquities embossing powder.
On the other side I added a Tattered Doily, cut from the same old book paper.
I finished the tag in my usual way with some died seam binding, a little Prima flower to hold it together and a type key charm.
I realize it's not the most original of tags, but I can't help it, I just love those Tim Holtz butterflies. I guess they must be one of my most used stamps.
Well, there you have it. Hope you like my grungy tag. It has all my favourite colours and I had fun making it.
I am going to add this to Brenda's (Floral Fantasies) 5 year blogoversary candy challenge as I am using my all time favourite products with this tag, Distress Inks and Tim Holtz's Papillon stamp.

Thank you for visiting like always and I hope you find the time for some creative art play yourselves!! I always find there is no better way to unwind!

Morning Astrid,

So much lushness (is that a word I wonder) on one gorgeous tag, the ageing techniques all look great and I need to try stamping into the grunge paste as it looks fab.

Some of my favourite colours which I always think lend themselves so well to Vintage inspired artwork. Not to mention the TH Papillon stamp set which also happens to be a favourite of mine as well, there are so many elements that you can use is so many ways.

I am so pleased that you joined in my blog celebration, thank you so much and good luck with the prize draws.

Love the stamped grunge paste, it adds real depth & texture to the layers. Great deep blue shades too. I have to admit I have fallen in love with Tim Holtz Chipped Sapphire - every product!!! Salty Ocean is another firm favourite (along with all the other colours ;)) but seriously I do love the blues they all work beautifully together with some green thrown in.

Astrid, what I continually admire about your art, isn't only that it is always exquisite (which it is) but you manage to use colour in such a clever way as it always has a vintage air to it, never bold and brassy and I absolute love that about your creations.
This tag is exceptional.

Astrid ... I hope by now you realize what a sensational tag this is. Sometimes our "playing" turns into fantastic art and that is the case here. First, the colors are sensational. Love the Chipped Sapphire around the edges and the blue bow.. That really brings out the pop of color on those beautiful butterflies (I love those stamps too). The layers of texture in the middle are fabulous. Thanks for the details. I want to play with modeling paste. You are inspiring me to do so. Love this!!! -- Mary Elizabeth

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
