Steampunk travel, a mid month project for Mixed Media Monthly

Hello friends, thanks for dropping by. Today I am sharing another "rusty" project for Mixed Media Monthly, where as many of you will know, our theme is rust this month and the challenge is sponsored by Emerald Creek, who sent each of us designers some of Seth Apter's wonderful baked textures.

When I started my project, I had no idea where it was going other than that it would include something rusty and I would use my Baked Textures. So I started by rusting up some elements.

The cogs were little chipboard pieces, I covered them with embossing ink, gave them a coat of the Rust powder and then a few sprinkles of Patina Oxide powder.
The large 3 was stamped with a Tim Holtz Numerical stamp,  fussy cut and then embossed with a mixture of first Rust, then Rocky Road, more Rust and finally a little Patina Oxide powders. I wished you could see it in real life, it really looks  like rusted and oxidised metal, - these powders are totally magical.
Anyway, back to my project:

I took a piece of Tim Holtz packaging, rounded a couple of the corners, added a bit of stencilling using Vintage Linen Distress paint, stamped a La Blanche stamp in the center and added some strips of washi and ephemera pieces. I then stamped all round the edges with another La Blanche steampunk type stamp.

Next I took one of the Ideaology Vignette frames, painted it black and then highlighted with Copper Treasure Gold. I arranged the cogs and number under and around the frame and added the word Travel to finish it all off.

The word is a Tim Holtz word sticker, matted on black card and again highlighted with Copper Treasure gold.

It's not often I create masculine projects, but this will come in useful when I need a male card or tag.

Wooden Plaque Steampunk style for Calico Crafts

Hello everyone, lovely to see you! Can you believe it's nearly the end of June? Time flies when you are having fun, and I had loads of fun making this project! Another sneak peek day today though,  I'm afraid,  for Calico Crafts.

Steampunk for Our Creative Corner

I was more than a little excited when I was invited to become part of the Our Creative Corner design team, and today is the day I will share my first project. Just click on the link to see the amazing projects my teamies have created also.

As you may know Claudia chose the theme of Steampunk Tic Tac Toe and I decided to go with the top line, wing, gears and wire. I made a wall plague out of mount board and started by making my background using Tim Holtz's Eroded Metallic technique as explained in Creative Chemistry 102.

Though I was pretty pleased with how it came out I added some Wow Blended Verdigris for some extra texture as well as some rusting powder to the corners.

Next I ran a piece of card through a Spellbinders Cogs and Gears embossing folder, layered a piece of 7 Gypsies printed tissue paper over the top and darkened the raised bits with Walnut Stain Distress Inks,

The next layer was some corrugated card, painted with Antique Linen, Weathered Wood and Walnut Stain Distress paints and then rusted with a thick layer of rusting powder.

Time for some stamping: these are both La Blanche stamps, stamped in Jet Black Archival onto smooth stamping card and then fussy cut and inked a bit with Vintage Photo DI.

Some rusty cogs (love that rusting powder, two of these are metal the other wood yet with the powder all beautifully rusted they look just the same).

A little plaque created with a metal filigree charm, treated with a bit of verdigris gilders paste, a piece of dry embossed metal and a word created with a Spellbinders die.
Ok, now for some wings..... a butterfly image with a rusted pen nib came to the rescue.

And of course no Steampunk piece is quite complete without the Victorian inventor, a vintage freebie I had in my stash.

Finally a piece of rusty wire to attach the charm to the plaque

Well, there you have it. I am not usually a steampunk sort of girl, so this was a bit of a challenge for me, but I greatly enjoyed it. Hope you like it.....

A Rusty Gentleman

Hello everyone and welcome, lovely to have you here and a specially warm welcome to all my new followers both of Friends Connect and on Bloglovin. Please know you are all very much appreciated!!
Today I would like to share a tag with you

I have been wanting to take part in Sandee and Amelie's Steampunk challenge block for ages, but every month I seem to run out of steam (no pun intended). This month the theme is rust, and though all I have to offer is a humble tag, it's all about joining in the fun right? I know I never have the time to do big complicated assemblages and such, and my steam punk bits and pieces are also limited, but I love rusty things so I knew I had to play.
So, as you can see there are many layers to this tag, the background was embossed and painted with numerous colours of acrylic paint trying to resemble something rusty, aged and worn. I then added some rusty wire, another bit of embossed paper (the bit at the bottom, with a Sculpey Clay tile on top).

The embossed bit was actually layers and layers of toilet paper, torn to bits and put on an embossing folder, spritzt with water and then run through a diecut machine. It was left to dry overnight and then turns into something resembling paper clay, very cool! I learned this clever trick from my friend Rita. It was coloured with Distress Inks.
Other layers include a photo from one of the papers from Tim Holtz's French Industrial collection, a rusty heart, some rusted steampunky bits, a couple of chit chat stickers and a sentiment from a Donna Downey set stamped on a Tim Holtz tattered banner. All the raised bits were high lighted with various colours of Treasure Gold.

Finally I added some lace and more curly rusted wire and a flower for just a little bit of a feminine touch and there you have it.

Mixed Media Canvas number two
