Use Your Wings for Mixed Media Monthly #38 Altered Embellishments

Hello lovely visitors and happy July!! As you will know, the first of the month means a new challenge at Mixed Media Monthly, and this month our theme is "Altered Embellishments!
Our wonderful sponsor this month is UmWow Studio, who sent us all some of their super chipboards to play with.

Here is the graphic for this month and if you decide to play in our challenge, remember to add it to your post if you want to be in with a chance to win our sponsor's prize! You can read all about it HERE.
Alright, onto my project: I decided to use one of Tim Holtz's Etc tags, made from very strong chipboard, as my backdrop. This is the small size, but it is actually huge!
I added some stencilling using texture paste and then covered it with Paperartsy Fresco Finish paint in Buff, using a brayer. Once the paint had dried I sprayed it lightly with water and then added a few sprinkles of Paperartsy Infusions in "The Sage" and finally some more stencilling using Distress Crayon in Gathered Twigs. A bit of background stamping with a text stamp finished it off.
Next I started to play with my embellishments. I took a couple of my lovely chippies, covered them with crackle paint and two different colours of acrylic paints and when that had dried some green and sparkling sprays. Below a close up of one of them:
Next I stamped a couple of butterflies, fussy-cut them and then coloured them using brush markers and then arranged it all on my tag together with some flowers from my stash and a Tim Holtz Quote Chip altered a bit with a Distress Crayon.

Well, that's it from me for today. Hope you like my project and you will decide to play in our challenge, and of course, - don't forget to check out what my talented teamies have created!

Mailart

Hello lovely visitors! Some of you may have seen that Paperartsy are having a mail art challenge right now. Well I love mail art, and really needed a break from all the Christmas projects. I hardly ever play in challenges, but this one I could not resist... So here goes, my mail art envelope:
I made my envelope using a really old piece of scrapbook paper, no idea from whom, but it was dark brown with rulers printed on. I covered it with gesso, and as it dried it turned this rather cool (I think) grey blue colour. I gave it a spritz of Ground Espresso Distress Ink Spray, dabbed it with kitchen roll and then played around with a number of different Tim Holtz stamps, using Snowflake Fresco paint, and a dark brown Big Brush pen to ink up my stamps.

I also added some collage elements, fussy cut and stamped, just to add a bit more interest.
This is what the back looks like:
Done in a very similar way, again, mostly using stamps from Tim Holtz Correspondence set.

I really enjoyed making this and plan to do a few more. If anyone would be interested in a swap, - leave me a comment. Mailart envelopes are sent just as they are, closed with nothing inside, like ATCs they are just an art exchange. If you are new to mail art, there are some super examples and a lot about the whole concept HERE. I am adding this to the Paperartsy Mailart Challenge

Well that's it from me for today. I'll be back tomorrow with just a little sneak peek for Shimmerz.
Happy weekend and thanks so much for your visit!

Paloma's Passport

Hello friends, thanks for dropping in.
Some of you may remember the post I did about Paloma, the little dove of peace. If you missed it and want to know who Paloma is, - you can find it here

Well I finally managed to finish a new little passport for her:
There are loads of pages here, so I thought once the addresses of people she is going to visit have been added, on the remaining pages, participants could maybe add some quotes or other messages and the little book could eventually, after Paloma has finished her journey, be sent to Lys as a gift for starting this wonderful project.

Anyway, I'll give you a quick run down of how I put the book together and show you some more pages.

I used Eileen Hull's Passport book die, and started by cutting all the different parts from mat board, plus two additional pages also from matboard.
Next I cut a number of inner pages from scrapbook paper (Blue Fern Timeless).
For putting the book together I followed Eileen's instructions she gives in this video. But before doing that, of course I had fun decorating the pages, cover and spine.
This is obviously the spine. I used a background text stamp, one of Tim's layering stencils and Distress Crayons from set 3, pretty much throughout. I love the effect of rubbing the Distress Crayons through the stencil, it looks so dimensional...

I also dry embossed the mat board inner pages, using various embossing folders.
And then coloured them with the help of some acrylic paint (Paperartsy Fresco in Buff) and again the Distress Crayons. I also used stamps from the Tim Holtz Correspondence set, mostly stamped in Maroon Archival ink.

and another sample, I just so love how the mat board can be dry embossed, that was a totally new idea for me....
And a final example of a double page. As you can see, I bound my book with twine and chose the Correspondence set because of the travel theme incorporated in that set.

For the covers I added more textural elements by covering them with texture paste and while still wet pressing a wet text stamp into the paste. Stupidly I forgot to take a picture before finishing the cover with paint, crayon and some die cuts, but I hope you get the idea.

Well, that's it, if you missed my last post about Paloma and would still like to be added to the list, please be in touch soon. I know we have hit busy times for everyone, but this is such a worthy cause in our troubled times.

I am going to finish with a quote from Hilary Clinton's Concession speech last night:

Fighting for what is right is worth it!

Thank you for your visit like always and may Peace be with you!!

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
