Back to Nature challenge at A Vintage Journey

Hello friends, - it's the first Friday of the month and that means there's a new challenge starting at A Vintage Journey

The lovely Jennie is our host and this is what she had to say about her chosen theme:
This month we are asking you to celebrate natural elements in your project. Think real nature in terms of twigs, dried flowers, shells or pebbles or perhaps stamps and stencils depicting these wonderful elements. Immerse yourself in the colours of the seasons whether they be bright or muted and create a project in our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

I decided to pull out some of my Tim Holtz goodies and created a large card:
I built the card layer by layer and started with a panel using the 3D wood grain texture fade and coloured with a mix of Oxide and normal Distress Inks.
After that I got caught up in the process and forgot to take step out photos, but I think it's quite easy to see how it all came together, so I won't write a long tutorial....
The central panel is a piece of design paper to which I added some texture, Design Tape and background stamping.
I then used the Flower Jar stamps and dies to create my little flower arrangement. They were stamped in black archival and coloured with Distress Markers.
The little ticket was the smallest of the postage stamps Thinlets dies, and the word is is made with letters from another Tim die.
I created another panel using the Botanical Texture Fade, sanded it down a bit and then wrapped some string around it and added a number brad.
I added some white splatters and then chose this "Snarky Comment" to finish it all off, - it seemed suitable as when I started I really had no idea where this was all going....
Well, that's it from me, - thanks for coming by here, and if you have not been yet, to hop over to A VINTAGE JOURNEY to see what my talented teamies have created, and like always we would love it if you play along with our challenge.
Happy September
xxxxx

Scrumptious woodgrain and your little jar of flowers is just delightful. The words made me laugh - seems to be how all my crafting goes at the moment... I've forgotten where everything is and how everything works! But this layered card turned out beautifully in the end. Love that looped twine with the number brad too.

Oh, boy! Astrid, as much as I love your typical style, this has got to be one of my favorites from you! I really love how you've layered those 3D panels, and your wood is some of the finest I've seen so far! Wish I were a butterfly flitting around your craft room when you made this, to learn all your secrets! What great details, too! I especially love the string! Brilliant card! Hugs!

Stunning piece Astrid, I would never have thought to use a dark background against the wood grain panel but the contrast is so effective. The addition of the twine and brads are embellishment perfection. I've resisted those jar/flower stamps and dies for a while I may need them in my life now!!
Thank you for sharing this marvellous piece.
Creative Hugs & wishes Tracey xx

I need to use my embossing folders I guess I haven't used them in a long time and your card really reminds me of what cool things you can do with them. And then that pop of just a little bit of color in the flowers-it is a pleasant surprise. The layering is pretty nice too. Happy weekend Astrid. Hugs-Erika

Another beauty from your craft table Astrid. I'm not great at using neutral, darker colours, but you make it look easy. So many tiny details which add to the magic of the whole piece. A new fave for me. x

Astrid,
such a beautiful card! I just love that woodgrain and the vase/bottle with flowers...the flowers remind me of the goldenrod and asters that are in the fields right now.
Hope your autumn is arriving gently with warm days and blue skies!

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
