Hello everyone, thanks for dropping by and for all your lovely comments on my recent Tim makes.
Today I have something totally different to share with you. I finally found the time to do an other page in my altered book:
I am using this book to keep old photographs of various relatives, both of my husband and myself. This page is dedicated to my grandparents on my fathers side.
Unfortunately I never got to know them very well. They were German jews who immigrated to the United States in 1939, they got away from Nazi Germany on one of the very last ships.
By the time I was born, my grandpa had died already and I only met my grandma twice....
Anyway, here are a few closer looks at the pages:
Background created in the usual way with Gesso, various texture pastes and different layers of fabric and lace strips. Added colours with various sprays then some background stamping, plus some collaged and stamped tags and tickets etc.
On this page I added texture paste and while still wet embossing powder and some glitter which was then dried and melted with a heat gun. Below some further close ups:
The metal clock face was first painted with Gesso, then coloured with some Luminarte Silks, a few bits of embossing powder and glitter were melted into it and then it was highlighted with Treasure Gold, as were some of the other embellishments.
I am going to enter this into the following challenges:
Finnabair Sparkle and Shine bloghop and challenge
Paper Artsy Shiny Stuff lots of shiny embossing powder and glitter plus treasure gold.
Mixed Media Monthly Challenge use something new to you. I have never used embossing powders and glitter into wet texture paste, so that was new to me.

Oh Astrid! This spread brought tears to my eyes- I am not sure if it was because you never were able to meet your Grandfather or their flight, or simply because of the wonderful tribute that you have created for them-So much beauty in this family book and lucky are those who inherit such a treasure some day! xo
Astrid--Simply amazing pages!! And an Amazing story about your paternal grandparents. With today being the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, your grandparent's story of escape to America brings tears to my eyes. Just amazing and very special pages indeed!! XOXO-Shari

What gorgeous pages for your book ... beautifully done ... I only knew 1 of my grandparents - it would have been lovely to have met the others
What a wonderful family generational story! And a fabulous idea making a book up with all the family history in it! One of my favest 'techniques' atm is to add embossing powder to anything that's wet. Including paint! It's great when it bubbles up as you heat dry it!!! LOL. FUN! And the gold in here. Oh, yes! That warms my heart atm:):) Thanks for your kind compliment on my blog, too:):) And the Finn blog hop was way fun, too....such inspirational DT over there!!
Oh I do love these pages Astrid and what a wonderful way to preserve family memories!! Once again the colours are beautiful and I love that technique with the embossing powder on the wet texture ... must have a go at that!! Looks fabulous!! Absolutely glorious double page spread!!! ox
A breathtaking spread.
Oh pish tush and fiddle - I KNOW I commented here... I mentioned my grandparents and the similar journeys in my family (plus I remember all that Chinese text in the comment above!
Anyway, suffice it to say, I love this - the layered tags, the gilded texture (yes, which I said was like something out of a more gilded lost age), the beautiful personal photographs. Glorious pages.
Alison xx
