Industrial for A Vintage Journey

Hello all, lovely to see at least some of you here.... Sorry to start with this, but having lost about 200 followers since google started it's new policy regarding friends connect, I cannot help but wonder whether blogger is slowly on it's way out....
But enough of this negative talk, - I'm here today to share my latest project for A Vintage Journey:
The wonderful Tracey Evans is our challenge host this month and she chose Industrial as her theme. Do check out all the details about the challenge here
My project is part of a much larger one, a big fat techniques journal/minibook, that I started a while back, and today's project is the spine of said book.
It started with a large Prima tag that I altered with inks and sprays (mostly Rusty Hinge and Ground Espresso).
As you can see I also did some background stamping and stencilling, using a variety of stamps, - Paper Artsy ((HP1501) and Indigo Blu (Crackle Background).
Next I worked on the focal image using some Andy Skinner and Seth Apter stencils on a piece of Prima paper, previously altered with the same colours of ink.
Now Tracey wanted us to use some metal, so I started with a piece of  engraving board that I dry-embossed with various folders and then sanded down. The board was originally black, so before embossing it I coloured it with Alcohol Inks and some Quin. Gold Decoart Media paint. Love the effect and will definitely do this again.
I used Espresso, Mushroom and Silver Mixative AIs and then the paint dabbed on with my finger. Next I die cut various elements from it that I wanted to use as embellishments.
Here you can see some of them, in the end I did not use the tag, but added some other pieces.
Here you can see the tickets, layered behind the focal image with the stencilled gent.

And here finally you can see how the finished tag turned out.
Below are some details still:
Some Industrial Stickers corners, and Ideaology arrow and a grunge board label rusted with embossing powders and paint. Perhaps you can also see some of the faux stitching around the edges. I explain how to do that in a post here
A clock part and some other bits and pieces left over from previous projects.
Another couple of little tags cut from my original coloured engraving board.
And here finally the finished spine adhered to my book.

Well that's it for today, I hope you have enjoyed my project, - do check out the amazing projects my team mates have created, inspiration galore!! Hopefully you will decide to play along, we would love to see you!!!

Wow, Astrid!!! This is brilliant! And just what I needed for some inspiration..... I love your "stitching", and I adore your background! I so wish Blogger would leave well enough alone - I hope your followers can find you nonetheless, as your work is always beautiful and inspirational! xxx Lynn

It's not negative talk at all Astrid, very realistic in fact. I think you already know my thoughts on Blogger and like you feel sure that there are more changes ahead. And I am still hard pressed to believe it was only non google id followers that were removed, I really do feel it went deeper than that, I base this on one of the challenge blogs that had about 3,000 followers and lost 905 in one fowl swoop.

OK enough moaning and must say what a wonderfully textural piece of artwork today.

And I can unfortunately only agree with both you and Brenda about the followers, but let´s hope, no more will happen now at least, but afraid we can never be quite sure. But when that is said, I just absolutely love your gorgeous spinepart for your book here. It is so sooo beautiful and gorgeous made to the smallest detail and I love the colors and all the tiny details, I see everywhere I look on this, and I can´t wait to see when this album is completely done, how stunning it´ll turn out, but I know, it´ll be amazing. Have a wonderful week-end ahead here hun and lots of great fun too, I hope.

Just back from the UK Astrid after having a super time with the grandkids, Alex has just turned 16. The first few months of the New Year are busy times for me going backwards and forwards to the UK.

Amber will be 18 in March and off to University this year, just trying to decide which one!!! It will come as no surprise to know that she is doing Graphics Design and Art. Wish I was at home more as I am sure I could learn so much from her. When she left school to go to college the school loved her final piece of artwork so much that they asked if they could have it to hang in the entranceway of the school. Of course she said yes, who wouldn't.

Another brilliant tag but oh so clever to use on the spine of the book. Haven't made a book for ages but this has inspired me to make one.

Sorry to hear of the problems with google. I use Wordpress and don't have any of the blogger problems. It also lets you do more things for displaying your work

Warm crafty hugs from Shirl x x x

This is amazing Astrid with so many thing to admire and inspire. I just love the way you used the staples to add a really industrial look.

Vic and me were discussing Blogger and decided that Google will be wanting payment from us before long or maybe adding lots of adverts and asking us to pay to have them removed. I remember the old groups at MSN and then making a new home at Yuku with their forums so I am sure we will all find some way of staying together whatever happens. I hope so.

Love Chrissie xx

I just wanted to say I read blogs through Feedly and the recent changes don't affect my reading/following ability on that. So, if others use some kind of blog following app, you might not have lost as many as you think :)

This is really gorgeous in detail Astrid and love the embossing and the amazing rich colours on your spine. It looks so beautiful in place.
Sorry about your followers issue too and I've only lost around 30 or so although the percentage is probably the same. Don't know why Google has to mess with things that work!

Absolutely fabulous spine tag! Astrid . The background alone was a stunner and then when you added all the Industrial elements and focal image you took it to a whole new level.
I'm now off to catch up with some of your posts I've missed over the last few weeks and I know I will be seeing the cover to this fabulous book as I go and if the spine is anything to go by I'm in for a real treat . Such a clever, inspiring idea .

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
