I am going to share a little portrait with you that went through a few transformations along the way:
It was done as part of my Children of the Wild class with Kate Thomson and is based on the first full scale painting she guided us to do. The title of the class relates to the fact that all the paintings are based on children and their connection to animals, and this particular painting was based on a story around a girl with a birds nest on her head.
Here is the first stage, including the nest, the whole thing was taken from Kate's example.
Here is a close up of the nest, I left it quite loose and scribbly as I thought I would paint over it eventually anyway.:
This is Kate's painting that mine was based on, you can see I took a rather different interpretation, though I applied many of the same techniques.
Kate's picture is is on her Pinterest, so as it is public anyway, I think I can show it here too.
Anyway, I love Kate's original but as I am not really into the whole children with animals growing out of them thing, I decided to paint and draw over the bird's nest and add some further background elements, stamping and a sentiment, to my version, so that is how I landed up here:
I now think I should have left alone with the sentiment, but there is always a next time, live and learn as they say....
Well that's it, thanks for your visit like always and hope you will find some time to do something creative today!
Until next time
xxxxx

You really do seem to be enjoying the techniques used in the class, you have certainly put them to good use here! I love her without the bird nest too. xx

Your sketch is really gorgeous - I love her face - and the nest!
A gorgeous sketch Astrid, her eyes are beautiful. I think I like her without the birds in her hair best.

Your drawing is amazing! And I still see the birds in the dark shadows above her hair. Wonderful piece!

Both examples are fabulous Astrid. I was so inspired by some of your early painting I joined the class. I love your interpretation and how you have made it your own. FABULOUS! Hugs Debs xx

Gorgeous painting dear Astrid. You surely made your own version of Kate`s example , and a very stunning one, too. Beautiful eyes, you gave her, and the hair is amazing too. I also love the stamping on your background .

Just perfect - love this Astrid! xx
Fabulous, and such a beautiful face. Love the background and light stamping.
Oh my goodness Astrid you are so talented in so many artistic areas. I love Kate's teaching and your interpretation is fantastic. It takes courage too to be true to ourselves and we learn from each other in taking these steps.
Love your scribbley birds nest and either interpretation is wonderful!
I hope my envelope arrived safely!!!???
Sending warm hugs,
Suzy
Wow Astrid, absolutely breathtaking!! I liked her with the birds in her hair, but I understand the desire to paint over it. The end painting is just breathtaking, you are such a talent! hope you had a great weekend! hugs :)
How talented you are Astrid. She is beautiful! I prefer her without the nest too but can see that its quirkiness is also very appealing. Hope your break going splendiferously! Nicola x
Oh no Astrid, I adore the background stamping along with the sentiment! Fabulous work and dare I say I like it better than Kate's! Deb xo
I'm glad you kept a photographic record of the nest at least - it's a little artwork by itself - definitely one for a future project. The portrait looks so haunting with the text hovering - I think the sentiment works beautifully too, but then I do like words!
