Another new discovery....

While here in Australia I suddenly discovered the work and products of Jane Davenport. Duh, I must have been somewhere under a rock.....
She has a huge product line with American Crafts, available in Michaels stores, and her products are also widely available in the UK and elsewhere
. But.... she is from Australia and has her own online shop here and of course I could not help myself and some of her products just fell into my basket... I love her colourful style and personality. So here are a first couple of pieces, using her work as inspiration :o)

I love the looseness of her portraits, without them becoming as stylised as some of the other artists out there. The background was done with some of her watercolours (pretty similar to the Prima sets I think), I then added detail with some of her water soluable crayons (they will only become available world wide from November, but she has them in her own shop here in Oz), and some coloured pencils and pens I had here anyway.
Embracing bright colours is always hard for me, but I am trying to break out into other ways of doing art. Having said that, my next page (and my own more favoured one) was done in more monochrome colours)
I love experimenting with different styles of faces, so expect to see more..... When I am back home and have my usual supply of stamps and inks, I may add further background detail still.
The penwork was done with a Sakura Micron pen and I was glad I had taken a white gelpen with me for some highlights.
I added the sentiment digitally and am going to add this to the October challenge at AJJ Landscapes of the soul

Thank you for dropping in here like usual and have a happy weekend!

You drew these faces beautifully. I really like all of them, and they look far more realistic than some I've seen. These are simply fabulous for AJJ.

I love both faces - both are so full of wonderful expression and a really beautiful use of colours on both of them Astrid! You never cease to amaze me with your versatility! I am really happy to see this wonderful face with the beautiful quote linked to our Inner Landscape collection at AJJ!
Jane Davenport is a fantastic artist and teacher - didn't have a workshop with her yet and didn't buy her books or supplies but watched some of her videos on YT - her style is adorable- I love to see that you put your own style into this faces just a little bit inspired by her's. That's art! Have a great time furthermore with your family downunder - enjoy the spring and warmth there!

Oh my, what amazing paintings! You have captured such beauty and your ladies are bewitching with their mesmerising eyes - beautiful 😁. I love the way you have blended the colours across the page too, it's magical how you have shaded the warm to colder colours, those new paints suit you 😁. Have a wonderful weekend! J 😊

You always surprise and delight with your Art Astrid. These portraits look like real people to me someone I could have a conversation with. Although I am a fan of bright colours, the second face really drew me in; I see wistful longing in her eyes. Beautiful.

Yes, I think you must have had blinkers on - JD projects are going great guns here though since they all seem to sit in the brighter colour zones I've managed to resist so far. I love your portraits - like you, the second one is the one which really appeals most strongly. I love the detail of both the watercolour shading and the penwork in the close up of her face - beautifully done. Looking forward to seeing more women appear...

Wow!! You never cease to surprise Astrid .. these portraits are absolutely wonderful!! I love them both but the second one really appeals the most. She looks so whistful and deep in thought and I love the minimalist look of it. Stunning!! There appears to be no end to your talents.
Hope you are having a wonderful time with the family and enjoying some good weather. Love and hugs xx

Stunning work - you have a wonderful way with watercolours and I have to say I love the second one for the delicacy of the colours and for what you've left out - I really like the space you've left around her - it works beautifully.

Just got a whole lot of new stamps from a brilliant place called the Stamp Smith. This is the image that I first saw on Docraft and really liked. I asked the friend who has used it in an ATC, where she got it. Well she borrowed it from a friend who got it from ebay as a one off. But.... it had a title. I googled the title, and hey presto found the site. They have great stamps and offer a really friendly fast service. I highly recommend them!
